Don is an Individual, Couple and Family Counsellor. What clients can expect from Don is a person of skills, experience and knowledge who uses an engaging two way process of communication and interaction between the client and himself.
The process of Counselling is a purposeful talking, non judgmental, empathic listening, sharing of ideas between the client and counsellor to assist the client achieve the goals they present to the counsellor. Clients can expect that Don is active in his questioning as he enquires about their concerns, issues and distresses, how that is affecting their life and those around them as he seeks to find underlying causes, issues and understanding.
Counselling can be challenging as it may open wounds long since buried and clients can expect Don to be respectful and mindful in his approach to work at a pace that is suitable to the client. The relationship between the counsellor is also important as each needs to "fit" with the other, so that they are able to work together as they explore sensitive issues.
Don offers a CONFIDENTIAL service between the client and counsellor with the following exception.
- If a client indicates, they have are intending to commit a criminal act.
- If the client indicates they have or intend to do serious harm to themselves, eg suicide.
- If the client indicates they have or intend to do serious harm to someone else.
Don is required to comply with current Federal and State legislation in Australia and South Australia. That may require his notes to be subpoenaed and cannot guarantee some confidentiality and privacy of sessions can be maintained at all times.
